History History. Tradition. Rügen.

Beginnings and naming 1882 - 1951

In 1882, the Hotel Nordpeerd was built at the highest point of the village of Göhren next to the historic water tower. The hotel got its name from the sand cliff jutting out into the sea on which the resort is located. The name "Nordpeerd" comes from the Slavic word "peert", which means "projection (into the sea)."

Hotel Nordpeerd has changed hands several times over the years. In the 1920s, it was acquired by the Herrmann and Johanna Abraham Foundation, which converted the hotel into a children's home for socially disadvantaged Jewish children from Berlin, Silesia and Saxony.

Public property and vacation home 1951 - 1994

In 1951, the property became the property of the people, Ministry of the Interior, Main Department of the German People's Police, Department of Public Health. This also changed the name of the house to the vacation home "Haus Thälmann". From then until reunification, it served as a vacation home for members of the People's Police. After reunification, the home was managed by a tenant for a short time and then stood empty for several years.

Change of ownership and renovation 1994 - 2018

In 1994, two private owners bought the land and building from the Federal Republic of Germany as the legal successor to the GDR. After several years of planning, the old building was completely demolished in 1998 and in the following 1 ½ years, today's HOTEL HANSEATIC RÜGEN was built as an individual and private hotel. The grand opening took place on June 1, 2000.

On May 10, 2005, the listed Villa Fortuna was opened after extensive renovation work. This was followed in September 2008 by the opening of the newly built Villa Felicitas and the "Bernsteinpalais" event building. In December 2012, fundamental renovation work was carried out in the main building.

Takeover by arcona Management GmbH 2018 - 2020

In July 2018, the owners decided to sell the hotel for personal reasons. The new management of the hotel was taken over by arcona Management GmbH, based in Rostock. Since then, the HOTEL HANSEATIC RÜGEN & VILLEN has been one of six vacation hotels in the arcona Group and is in good company with historic hotels such as the Hotel Elephant in Weimar and the Romantik Hotel auf der Wartburg in Eisenach.

In November 2020, extensive renovation work began in the main building of the hotel complex. The rooms and suites were modernized, and the lobby, dining area and wellness area were also redesigned. The renovation measures were completed in May 2021.
